BT offers high-speed public wireless internet access at thousands of hotspots in popular locations across the UK and worldwide via the BT Openzone* service. BT Openzone is now available at GSK House and is proving to be a popular addition, as the Investor Relations team based at the site points out:
"Having BT Openzone available for our external consultants means that we can have continuity of service. Whilst here they often need to connect to their own mail or use the internet to search for images, without BT Openzone there is no continuity of business."
At GSK House, BT Openzone has been added to the site's existing private wireless local area network (wireless LAN) as BT Openzone Guest. By extending the existing LAN to include BT Openzone, GSK House has benefited from greater flexibility and productivity across the site by providing visitors with secure access to the internet when they are at GSK House. Key public areas such as the ground-floor café and restaurant areas, meeting rooms and the directors' floor all now enjoy BT Openzone Wi-Fi coverage. This cost-effective solution forms part of the overall BT GSK Master Services Agreement so that all UK GSK sites can deploy a wireless service quickly and easily without compromising their existing network infrastructure.
Wireless LAN solutions have existed for a number of years, enabling flexible, secure access to fixed-network infrastructures, such as corporate networks. Wireless technologies are now an increasingly common part of standard laptop computing equipment and component parts are both relatively inexpensive and widely available. BT Openzone provides a safe, secure, cost-effective wireless internet solution at GSK House.
It was important for GSK House to implement a safe and secure solution from a trusted network provider such as BT so that their own internal corporate network was not left open to criminal, hostile or careless use. GSK were also looking for a fully supported Wi-Fi service, and BT Openzone's Freefone helpdesk, open 24 hours a day every day of the year, provides just the end-to-end service support they were looking for. Also, internal processes have been implemented so that GSK and BT Openzone technical teams can work seamlessly together.
The solution for GSK House can easily be replicated across other UK GSK sites, and will provide a safe and secure wireless internet solution.
